A Therapeutic Guide to Self-Liberation
Why This Book?
There are many books on trauma healing that can change people’s lives. Yet when queer and trans people, people of color, and all of us living at the margins look for books that reflect our own experiences and that specifically name the oppression we experience as trauma, we’re left empty-handed.
There’s little that speaks to the specific traumas we experience: homophobia, transphobia, institutional injustices, isolation, medical trauma, and discrimination at every turn.
We deserve to have ourselves reflected and considered in the world of trauma recovery.
What's Inside the Book?
In Healing the Oppressed Body, I share the best tools and approaches to healing trauma from my experience as a somatic therapist while also filtering them through an anti-oppression, intersectional lens, making sure they’re uniquely impactful for all of us at the margins.
Learn how trauma is stored and processed by our minds and bodies and how we can work with our amazingly flexible brains and nervous systems to create pathways to healing.
Practice grounding and containment tools used in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) to manage triggers and regulate.
Via attachment theory 101, you’ll understand just how and why trauma that occurs in our earliest days can affect us throughout our lives.
Understand your Internal Family System (IFS), using the wisdom of inner parenting to help make yourself whole.
Complete guide to different types of trauma therapies, and questions to ask potential therapists to make sure it’s a good fit on many levels.
Reveal the unseen traumas that have not been recognized until recently (i.e. oppression-based trauma, childhood trauma, trauma of “modern” living, and generational trauma.)

About the Author
Hi! I’m Andrea (she/her), a queer therapist, educator, and author. I help people heal trauma through body-based, anti-oppressive practices rooted in nervous system healing, attachment repair, and parts work.
For the past five years, I’ve run my own private therapy practice out of St. Louis, Missouri, working with individuals and communities who are reclaiming safety and connection. Whether through writing, teaching, or one-on-one sessions, my goal is always the same: to support people in coming home to themselves.
